5.0 out of 5 stars Good companion 13 June 2013
By Yeswanth
I had an IPad before i bought the Kindle. IPad is good for a lot of things but not for reading. I found it too heavy to hold for long periods and especially when you are working on LCD screens all day it is very bad for your eyes to come back home and read on an IPad. So I went for the Kindle and it has been a good friendship from then. It saves me from eye strain, there are no distractions in jumping into other apps and it helps me focus on one activity - makes me enjoy my books even better.
It is the lightest and cheapest Kindle and good for reading outdoors too. I feel this is going to be a great device when i travel - lightweight and immersive. If you read a lot in the night and dont want to have a light switched on - go for paperwhite. Otherwise, this is a great deal - get your reading companion for a long time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it ! 16 June 2013
By Anant Mittal
I've had a Kindle for more than a year now and it is an incredible gadget. You can just go on reading books one after the other. The nearly 2 GB space is quite enough, but the biggest feature is the battery which actually lasts for a month! I was really lucky I brought this instead of the Kindle Fire, because if you want a simple down to earth E-reader and nothing else, this is the best there is. Period.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome product ! 14 October 2013

After a fortnight of owning a kindle, I would like to declare that this is,hands down, by far,the best gadget I've ever owned.
It is light-weight, quite comfortable to hold in one hand, easy to navigate single-handedly,very good battery backup,anti-glare screen , good processing speed and so on.
The best part is, it increases your capacity (and interest of-course!) of reading very much. You will hung up on reading for like hours.
Apart from books, kindle is a great tool for reading comics ! I was almost shocked with the ease and experience of reading the same. It has Kindle Panel Viewer which is an awesome feature for reading comics.
My observations so far :
1) Go for Kindle instead of Kindle Paperwhite for following reasons:
a) Trust me,you do not want any accidental page turnover, change of settings etc. by a random touch
b) Will be able to hold it anyway you want, whereas in paperwhite, you have to hold it from sides or behind, which becomes
quite uncomfortable for long reading hours.
b) For those who are beginners, this is more than enough for you to get going.
c) And of course It is cheaper ! (paying almost double for just reading light and touch seems to be over the top)
2) If you are very much interested in reading in night, then better buy a reading light ( plenty available on eBay etc)
3) Buy some sort of protection for screen like screen-guard, leather pouch etc
4) Black Model looks better as it gives more contrast to the white screen and thus black letters look more crisp.
5) Don't worry about "compatible-eBook-format-content". There are hundreds of converters for converting any type of file into any format you want.Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars A Library In Your Bag (And It Pays You Back) 2 September 2013
The book-lover that I am, I fell in love with Kindle the moment it was released in the US a few years ago. For the first time my dream of carrying a large number of books in a very light and portable electronic device had come true. Over the years I used many Kindles and many types of Kindles because members of my extended family kept helping themselves to my kindles -- ebooks and everything.
Here are a few things that you should note if you are contemplating to buy a Kindle:
1. What Do You Get: For the suggested price you get a Kindle and a USB cord. The cord can be used for several things (once you become experienced), but mostly for charging your Kindle from a computer or from any standard device that accepts USB plugin. An indicator comes on when the Kindle is in charging mode.
2. The Device: Handling Kindle is a pleasure because of its light weight, streamlined body, and just the right size for handling -- neither too big for comfort nor too small like a mobile device. There are several buttons at the bottom that help you with navigation and selection.
3. The Display: The screen is very kind on the eyes, they use a special technology known as Electronic Ink to make reading a great experience. It needs ambient light to read it, just as a book needs light. Of course, a tiny LED rechargeable light (available for less than Rs. 250) will help you to read it even at night without disturbing others.
4.Comparison With Non Kindle Devices: I have used a number of non Kindle devices, and none of them comes even remotely close to any type of Kindle. Neither in looks, nor in reading comfort, nor in technology.
5. Battery Life: I wish that all chargeable devices has such battery-life. Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Library in your pocket! Simply marvelous. 13 July 2013

I have been reading from a Kindle for the past six months. During this period, my reading HAS increased triple fold at least, I wouldn't read too much, since i like lying down, and reading. Since i got glasses, that is practically impossible. Also, for me, books, physical books are sacred. The smells, the pages, i really get dismayed with the ageing of a book.
If you then, takeaway the context of paper books, and consider this your first reading experience, you will never go back again. I've loved it so much, i've gifted it to quite a few of my friends.
I will list my favorite qualities here, the specifications are easily available in more detail.
PROS :
For me, the most important, is highlighting, bookmarking and crucial is the "Dictionary" :)
It is so so easy, to just put a cursor on any word that you are looking at, and get the meaning, so you get the full context of what the writer is saying. Very important for non-native speakers.
Also, the Kindle Store! Most classic books are really really cheap! Also, i do not feel like pirating, since Amazon offers amazing deals on good books, and a Kindle can practically store unlimited number of books. I mean, you can never complete the number of books a Kindle can hold.
Page turning is a synch, its beautiful, and i love and enjoy page turning on a Kindle :)
It fits in my pocket, is incredibly light, and BEST ENJOYED in natural sunlight. You won't believe how the screen looks in the outdoors, and in natural sunlight.
Two weeks to One month battery life, depending on if you are on Wi-fi, or not on wi-fi. You don't really need wi-fi, and can turn it off, and enjoy the Kindle for an ENTIRE MONTH! Unheard of device standby time! Read more ›
